Google Meet vs Google Duo: Which one should you pick?

Google announced major updates to two of its video conferring platforms Google Duo and Google Meet. While the Duo will now be able to host 32 people at once, Meet makes a smooth transition to the Gmail app on mobile. Ever since the lockdowns were imposed due to coronavirus, the demand for video-conferencing apps increased rapidly. Many apps like Zoom rose to overnight fame.

Keeping the proliferation of video-conferencing app in mind, Google too rebranded Hangouts as Meet and presented its own video-conferencing platform. Initially, the app was chargeable but now the Meet app has been made available to all the users free of cost. The Meet was recently integrated into Gmail and just yesterday, it was integrated into the Gmail app.

Whereas Google Duo comes pre-loaded in all the Android phones. It was being looked up as a more causal video-calling app but now it also lets users add up to 32 people on the web while the mobile version supports up to 12 people in a single call. There is no doubt that both the video-calling platforms can be used for professional as well as personal purposes but there is a clear distinction between the two apps.

Google Meet has an edge over Google Duo if you need an app for professional purposes. The Meet has specific features like webinars and screen sharing whereas Duo can be a great app for hosting a virtual party with friends.

Coming to the interface, both Meet and Duo have a pretty clean UI and extremely easy to use. For instance, you can launch Dup simply by tapping on the camera icon and adding people you want to chat with. There are filters and effects that can make you chat a fun one. Similarly, Google Meet is even simpler to access, the app opens in a camera mode and there are two options that are given to the users— New Meeting or Meeting Code. A meeting can be joined on Google app using a Meeting code and you can also be a host and invite people to join your call following the same process. You can also schedule meetings on Google Meet and let people know about it in advance.
